Course Summary:
All projects are risky, and effective risk management is a key contributor to project and business success. Project risk management is well established, with an agreed process, accepted methods and proven techniques. Despite this consensus, some elements of risk management are still problematic. This intermediate level Master Class addresses these sticking–points, presenting practical solutions to the most difficult parts of the risk process.

The one-day course covers the following main topics:

  • Key concepts: relating uncertainty, risk, threat & opportunity
  • Summary of the risk process
  • Issues with identification: finding and describing risks
  • Aspects of assessment: defining scales and understanding exposure
  • Realistic responses: strategies and tactics


The course includes a number of exercises to allow delegates to practise the areas discussed, providing a safe learning environment where skills can be developed before returning to the workplace.

The course is designed for :

  • Anyone involved in a project which is subject to uncertainty
  • Project managers and risk practitioners who wish to extend their skills to manage risk more effectively
  • Any project stakeholder with an interest in maximising the chances of project success
  • Prior experience of project risk management would be helpful though not essential

Dr David Hillson PMP HonFAPM FIRM is internationally recognised as a risk management expert, and is Director of Risk Doctor & Partners. David is a popular conference speaker and prolific author on risk, and works globally as a risk consultant and trainer. David is an active member of the Project Management Institute and was awarded the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award. He is also a Fellow of both the UK Association for Project Management (APM) and the UK Institute of Risk Management (IRM).

Program management (PgM) is fast developing as the essential link between strategy and projects and a vehicle for organizational change. This seminar has been designed by Michel Thiry author of the book “Program Management”. It is a good overview for PgMPSM candidates and takes into account the PgMP Credential Handbook knowledge requirements. The Seminar is based on recognized standards, including the PMI®’s Standard for Program Management and the UK Government’s “Managing Successful Programmes” (MSP®), as well as worldwide Valense practice and research. This seminar offers an understanding of program management’s connection to business strategy and objectives and the management of multiple stakeholders, beyond multiple-project management. The seminar provides participants with tools and techniques to deal with complex, unplanned change in a structured manner and develops knowledge of particular techniques required for managing programs. It also analyzes the best organizational structures for program management as well as the competencies and skills required from program managers. During the seminar, participants will test their recently acquired knowledge on a case study based on the PgMP Exam Specifications. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of attendance in accordance with the PMI® Registered Education Program and the Professional Development Program.
